Plastic Surgery Helps to End Migraines

Migraines typically strike between the ages of 20 and 50. WHO estimated in 2003 that 303 million people worldwide suffered from migraine headaches. Migraines typically affect females more often than males; 25% of females and 8% of males suffer from these debilitating headaches. Children may also be affected.
New research brings hope to those who suffer from migraines. A plastic surgeon, Dr. Guyuron of Case Western Reserve University, has published a study which shows that a modified forehead lift can drastically improve many people’s migraine headaches. In the study Guyuron divided patients into two groups, those who received the actual forehead lift surgery and those who received a different procedure. The patients were migraine sufferers who had migraine trigger sites in only one area.
A year after surgery, those in the actual surgery group reported vast improvement in the headaches (83% of the actual surgery group reported a 50% reduction in their headaches) or a total disappearance of migraine symptoms (57%). These results show that forehead lift surgery can be very successful in the elimination or improvement of migraine symptoms.
Migraine symptoms can rob people of quality of life and productivity. Symptoms can be disabling and may include:
? Severe head pain
? Nausea
? Vomiting
? Sensitivity to light
? Vision changes
No doubt those who suffer from frequent migraines will view Dr.Guyuron’s research with great interest.
