The producers of “Speed-the-Plow,” the David Mamet play that used to star Jeremy Piven, have filed a grievance with Actors’ Equity Association. Mr. Piven, best known for his role as Ari the agent on Entourage, quit the production last month after claiming that his excessive sushi intake had led to mercury poisoning.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the symptoms of mercury poisoning may include the following:

Disturbance in vision (peripheral vision)

Numbness in the extremities

Lack of coordination

Speech or hearing impairment

Difficulty walking

Muscle weakness

Skin rashes

Mood swings, memory loss, mental disturbances

Presumably the footage of Jeremy Piven covered with skin rashes, having difficulty walking, and lacking coordination have been withheld, although there does seem to be some videographic evidence of mood swings and mental disturbances – although that footage may precede his mercury poisoning.

Fortunately, Mr. Piven’s “fishy” ailment didn’t prevent him from attending the Golden Globes, late night parties, or taking an international vacation.
