Take It With a Grain of Salt
Turns out low sodium intake increases your risk of dying prematurely.
By Kalia Doner
We have been brainwashed into thinking that salt is evil; low salt is good. But that turns out to be one more over-simplified nutritional myth that we have swallowed. A study from McMaster University in Canada reveals that moderate salt intake is what's healthful. A low intake of salt was associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular death. And both high and low levels of salt intake may put people with heart disease or diabetes at increased risk of cardiovascular complications. Since the vast majority of the American population will come down with one or both of those conditions in their lifetime, this is a fact worth knowing.
