Corey Haim, the Canadian actor best known for starring in the 80s vampire film The Lost Boys, and for a long struggle with substance abuse problems, has died of an apparent drug overdose at the age of 38, the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed on Wednesday. The overdose has been deemed accidental, but an autopsy report will confirm the cause of death.

Haim had struggled with an addiction to cocaine and prescription pills like valium, for which he went to numerous rehabs over the years, beginning in 1989,when he was still a teenager. Haim was not alone in his struggles with drug addiction. Many of his co-stars, including Robert Downey Jr., Corey Feldman and Kiefer Sutherland, battled addictions of their own.

The actor's other well-known films include Lucas, his first major film break, and License to Drive. He frequently starred in films with fellow teen actor Corey Feldman. Together, the actors were known as "The Two Coreys," a nickname that became the title of their reality series in 2007. Feldman released a statement upon learning of Haim's passing: "This is a tragic loss of a wonderful, beautiful, tormented soul, who will always be my brother, family, and best friend...I hope the art Corey has left behind will be remembered as the passion of that for which he truly lived."
