Drink, Drank...Pregnant?
The drunker you get, the more likely you are to have unsafe sex.
You've chugged countless beers, your head is swimming, and you're headed back home with your boyfriend, girlfriend, or someone else entirely--we're not judging!
But then you're about to have sex, and suddenly the condom is too difficult to put on, so one of you suggests going bare. And the other drunkenly complies.
According to a study conducted at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health in Ontario, Canada, situations like this one are unfortunately common when a duo has had too much alcohol. Seems the alcohol melts inhibitions even if you aren't the kind of person who hates the feel of a condom or enjoys the risky and risqu. And that translates to an increased chance of contracting an
STD or (for females) of becoming pregnant. Across the board, study participants were five percent more likely to have unprotected sex with every 0.1 milligram per milliliter increase in their blood alcohol level. A reading of .08 blood alcohol or more qualifies as drunk.
So you do the math: You are 40 percent more likely to take a potentially toxic tumble if your consumption nudges you into the drunken zone--and it gets riskier and riskier after that.
So while you may find that alcohol lets you summon the courage to ask out your crush, don't let it turn that chance for romance into a dangerous liaison.
